Motivate yourself to achieve your goals!

Go ahead.....reach for the stars!

Yes, the New Year promises lots of good things to everyone. I am sure that everyone has a list of goals that you would like to accomplish or at least make a positive start to accomplishing in 2010. I know what some of you might be thinking. You are usually pumped up at the beginning of the year and all your goals and dreams would start to take shape. But as the days and months go by, you start 'losing steam' and in turn you start losing motivation to take action to realise those goals that you had set early in the year. So how do you keep yourself motivated to work towards your goals/New Year resolutions?

Well, here are some tips to keep you excited about achieving your goals that you remain committed to taking action thrughout the year:

1.) Write down your goals.
This is the most important aspect of goal-setting. Writing down your goals creates the roadmap to your success. As people always say, 'you can't hit a target that you can't see'. I know that some of you might feel uncomfortable writing down your goals, especially since some of them might be very personal. I felt the same way. But you have to block out the feelings of uneasiness and look forward to the wonderful feelings of accmplishments once you realise the goals, or even just a small part of your goals.
If you are really shy about writing out your goals in words, an alternative would be to draw/cut a picture that symbolises your goal/s(make a goal/s board/book!). For example, if you are setting a goal to graduate in 2010, cut a picture of a graduation ceremony.

2.) Visualize accomplishing your goal at least once a day.
Again, we go back to the power of visualization. You could take afew minutes of your lunch break to relax and think about how great it would feel to have accomplished your goals. Make it part of your daily routine. If you encounter a stumbling block that might be hindering you from achieving your goal/s, spend more time visualizing to get your mind excited and optimistic about overcoming the challenges.

3.) Make your goals huge!
“Shoot for the moon. If you miss you’ll still reach the stars.” Goals should inspire you to move forward, get you excited and get you to take action. If your goals are too easy, you won’t be as motivated to achieve them. The mere thought of achieving your goals should make you excited and put a smile on your face. If you do not, chances are it might be too uneasy, unclear, something that you really do not want or something too easy. Whenever you feel your motivation dropping, just think of how all the different areas of your life would be like if you have achieved the goals.

Here's wishing everyone a fabulous 2010!
